How to Repair Your Washing Machine
One *ay your washing machine was faithfully cleaning your clothes, an* you barely even gave its operation a secon* thought. Then, any number of scenarios occurre*. Perhaps the machine's basin fills with water but it will not *rain. Or it *rains but *oes not spin. Or the clothes are washe* but are not very clean. In short, your washing machine *oes not work at its peak performance or has entirely stoppe* working.
For a machine that works so har*, it is har*ly surprising that your clothes washerwill occasionally break *own or its performance will *egra*e to the point where the clothes are not getting sufficiently clean. Instea* of calling in an expensive appliance technician, you can repair your washing machine by yourself. Most of these repairs require only simple tools an* can be performe* by homeowners who have only limite* appliance repair skills.

Washing Machine Will Not Start
It is the most basic of all washing machine break*owns: the machine will not start. You have put the clothes in the washing machine basin, presse* the "On" button or turne* the *ial, an* then nothing happens.

  • Check the power cor* behin* the washer to make sure that it is plugge* in. Due to washers' vigorous movements, especially when the loa* is imbalance*, machines may move. When a machine moves, it may ina*vertently unplug the power cor*. Cor*s that have been shortene* with ties have no give. In this case, untie the cor* to allow for more flexibility.
  • Is the circuit breaker to the washer flippe* off? To reset a circuit breaker, fin* the electrical service panel. Locate the correct circuit breaker, flip it in the "Off" *irection, an* then back to the "On" position.
  • Your front loa*er washer's li* switch strike may be faulty. This is the area of the *oor frame that communicates to the machine that the *oor is properly close* an* it is okay to begin filling with water. Close the li* an* watch as the part on the *oor connects with the part on the machine. The top part shoul* seat into the bottom part.
  • Your top loa*er washer's li* switch may be faulty. You can test this by setting the machine to "On" an* then pushing into the hole with the blunt en* of a pen. If working correctly, the water shoul* begin filling even though the li* is open.

Washing Machine Does Not A*equately Clean the Clothes
This may be one of the more frustrating clothes washer problems because you notice it only after running the clothes through a full cycle. After washing your clothing, you remove it an* fin* your suppose*ly clean clothes covere* in lint, hair, an* other light *ebris.
    • Avoi* overloa*ing your washer. An overly full washer *oes not have enough space for the clean rinse water to pull out the *etergent an* *ebris. Consult your owner's manual for specific loa* maximums.
    • Use less *etergent. Too much *etergent can re*eposit lint an* other *ebris back on the clothing, rather than pulling it out.
    • Wash pet-relate* items such as blankets, cat an* *og be*s, an* chew toysseparately from the rest of the clothing. If the pet loa* is especially *irty, clean the washing machine tub by han* after the wash. [فقط الأعضاء المسجلين والمفعلين يمكنهم رؤية الوصلات . إضغط هنا للتسجيل]

Washing Machine Will Not Spin
With this all-too-common washing machine problem, the basin has *raine* of water but it refuses to spin. Spinning at a high rate of spee* is the action that squeezes water out of the clothing so that it can be *rie* in the *ryer.
    • Try to re*istribute the clothing within the washing machine tub. When the washer is out of balance, it will automatically stop until you can get the clothing back in balance. After re*istributing the clothing, close the li* again. The machine shoul* start spinning automatically if the loa* *istribution is correct. Loa*s that inclu*e high-absorption materials like towels, sheets, an* thick clothing like jeans an* sweaters often become imbalance*.
    • Check the machine's level on the floor. An out-of-level machine will stop spinning; this action is programme* into your clothes washer for safety. Check the machine's level with a bubble level an* bring the machine back to level by a*justing the legs.
    • Check the *rainage an* the *rain hose. Small items may clog up the machine's *rainage system. You may be able to check the washer's *rain pump without removing it. Finally, the *rainage hose that lea*s from the back of the machine to a *rainage point may be clogge*.

Washing Machine Makes Lou* Noises
One of the more annoying washing machine problems is when the washer makes thumping, grin*ing, or thunking noises *uring the agitation or spin cycles. Repair this problem as soon as possible, since the errant movement can *amage the washer an* create new problems.
    • The tub bearings, locate* *irectly below the tub, may be worn out an* in nee* of replacement.
    • If the washing machine is making a squeaking soun*, the tub bearings may nee* lubrication.
    • The washing machine motor *rive belt or pulley may be worn out. This is a rather involve* repair, where you nee* to take apart a significant section of the machine in or*er to get to the motor.
    • The pump pulley belt may be cracke*, fraye* or otherwise out of shape. Often the belt will smell like burning rubber, too.

Washing Machine Will Not Agitate
One common problem associate* with washing machines: The machine's basin or tub fills with water but the central agitator *oes not move.
    • Agitation is the back an* forth motion that cleans the clothing. This action is performe* by the central plastic cone-shape* *evice calle* the agitator. Small plastic *irectional cogs (also known as "*ogs") connect the upper portion of the agitator with the bottom portion. Open the li* while the machine is in agitation mo*e. Depress the li* switch with the blunt en* of a pen so that the machine *oes not stop while the li* is open. If the machine is making normal soun*s of agitation or even a grin*ing noise, yet the agitator is not moving, the cogs may be worn *own or broken an* in nee* of replacement.
    • Your machine's washer motor may have been affecte* by a power spike an* nee*s to be reset. All bran*s have *ifferent reset proce*ures; check your owner's manual for possible information about motor resetting. For example, many General Electric washing machines require you to unplug the machine, plug it back in, then lift an* lower the li* six times within 12 secon*s, raising the li* a minimum of two inches in or*er to break the li* switch magnetic connection. Washing Machine Fills With Water But Will Not Drain
Many homeowners have ha* the unpleasant experience of lifting the washing machine li*, only to *iscover clothes floating in a tub fille* with murky gray water. If you catch the machine early enough, the water is still hot or lukewarm.
    • Your machine's pump may be clogge* with a piece of fabric or some other item relate* to washing. Bail the water out with a kitchen measuring cup an* then unplug the machine. Take off the screws on the front panel. Tilt the machine up an* prop the front of the machine on two-by-fours or bricks for easier access. Your machine's pump housing may be easily visible, making it simple to assess whether you have a clog in the pump. If so, use pliers to gently untwist the clog from the pump.
    • Alternatively, the clog may be locate* in the corrugate* tube that lea*s to the pump. Unclamp the tube. Have a bucket or bin nearby, because this tube will be fille* with water. Drain the water. If there is a clog in the hose, it will usually be at the en* of the hose. Pull it out by han* or with pliers.

Washing Machine Vibrates an* Shakes Too Much
When your washing machine is running, particularly *uring the spin cycle, it may violently shake or vibrate, often so much that the machine "walks." This may be pronounce* if you have a high-efficiency machine, which has a faster spin cycle than top loa*ing machines.
    • Your machine may nee* to be rebalance*. Use a bubble level to assess the level of the machine from si*e-to-si*e an* front-to-back. Rea*just the machine's level by turning the machine's legs up or *own. Unlike the *ryer, which has just two front a*justable legs, most washing machines have four a*justable legs.
    • With stacking washer-*ryer combinations, the connection straps may have loosene*, causing the unit to shake violently. This can be a *angerous situation, since the *ryer may fall off of the washer. Tighten the connection straps or replace if necessary.
    • The classic an* most easily fixable cause of a shaking clothes washer is an unbalance* loa*. Drape long, heavy items aroun* the central agitator so that they are not groupe* on one si*e. Move large items to the other si*e of equally large items.
    • Consi*er purchasing an anti-vibration pa*. In*epen*ently testing has shown that pa*s that are three inches thick *o an excellent job of *ea*ening the shaking an* vibration. While not inexpensive, these pa*s can be a valuable tool for re*ucing the transmission of washer vibration to your home.
