Normally when this happens people often assume that the belt is faulty an*, whilst this can be a cause, on most mo*ern machines the belt will more often than not outlive the actual machine. It is not the common problem that it was many years ago an* hasn't been for many years.
The problem these *ays is more liable to be the likes of a spee* control PCB or mo*ule or even what is referre* to as the "tacho generator" on the washing machine's motor.
Notably on ol*er Hotpoint machines, pre-2003 especially, with a GEC motor fitte* the carbon brushes being worn can cause this. There is an article base* on the subject of carbon brushes alone, click here to rea* that article
Assuming everything else works these shoul* be checke*:

  • Belt
  • Spee* control PCB or mo*ule
  • Motor capacitor (where fitte*)
  • Main control mo*ule
  • Motor faulty
  • Faulty carbon brushes

A fault co*e comes up
Over the past *eca*e or so this has become an increasingly common problem, some ran*om fault or error co*e pops up in the *isplay of your washing machine or, it sits there flashing lights seemingly ran*omly at you but, *oesn't work.
First thing to *o is check the washing machine fault co*e section an* see if your's is liste* there an* that will give you an i*ea of what the problem might be.
However an*, this is really important, it will not normally tell you to the exact component what the problem is. All it will *o is give you an i*ea of where to start looking for the problem.
If you can't fin* the co*e there then ask in the forum, if someone knows or can gain access to the *ata to tell you they usually will *o so.
Most importantly, *on't guess at what the problem might be, that rarely en*s well!
Washing machine timer not a*vancing
This is a tricky one an* it's not really possible to be entirely polite as so many people make the mistake of thinking imme*iately that the timer or controller is faulty when, in fact, it's often got nothing whatsoever to *o with the timer. So if you're rea*ing this an* thinking that the timer is faulty, you're probably wrong.
Normally the timer will a*vance to a certain stage before stopping an* that gives us a huge lea* on *iagnosis of the actual problems as, what happens is that the machine will almost certainly halt where the actual faulty component is calle* into use.
What this means is that almost any component can cause this fault an*, if you are unsure we woul* strongly a*vise that you seek professional help because, if you blow £100 or more on a timer or mo*ule an* you're wrong then the chances are that it will be non-returnable.
Washing machine not heating
Pretty easy one usually, in most cases there will be a faulty heater, thermostat, thermistor or pressure switch but there can be other causes.
  • Heater
  • Thermostat
  • Thermistor
  • Pressure switch/level sensor
  • Timer or control PCB/mo*ule

Washing machine is vibrating ba*ly
If you've just installe* the machine then the chances are that you have not remove* the transit packing properly, go back an* rea* the manual again to see how it is *one as, if an engineer calls un*er warranty an* this is the fault you are very likely to be charge* for the visit as it's not a fault.
See also The Great Spin Spee* Debate an* Installation articles.
Assuming the machine has been in a while then the problem can still be flooring or installation relate*, but more commonly it will be a suspension problem. Of course there are other faults that can manifest themselves in this manner, but it is rare.
  • Suspension
  • Bearing failure (See previous "Washing machine noisy") [فقط الأعضاء المسجلين والمفعلين يمكنهم رؤية الوصلات . إضغط هنا للتسجيل]

Washing machine not spinning
Again often blame* on the belt (see previous) but in our *eca*es of experience we can almost count on one han* how many washers we've seen a faulty belt causing no spin on, it is extremely rare.
See the previous "Washing machine *rum won't turn" as many of the problems *escribe* there can be mirrore* to this problem.
Remember very carefully, if the machine cannot *rain or *rain correctly then the spin will often abort rather than actually not spin so bear this in min* when looking for a problem.
  • Spee* control PCB/mo*ule
  • Faulty or worn carbon brushes
  • Faulty contacts on fast cam within the timer
  • Faulty capacitor (where fitte*)
  • Faulty motor
  • Faulty motor tacho
  • Blocke* pump or *rain
  • Overloa*e* or out of balance, can be ma*e worse by poor installation or flooring
  • Faulty bearings
  • Faulty *oor lock mechanism
  • Faulty pressure switch

Washing machine not filling
First, check the water supply is okay!
Assuming it is then the first port of call will be the water valve, these are easily available from our online store an* pretty straightforwar* to change.
Pressure switch an* electronic components can also cause this problem an* it is often mistakenly reporte* as a fill problem when really, it is actually just that the machine won't start in the first place.
  • Water supply
  • Water fill valve
  • Pressure switch
  • Control PCB/mo*ule

Poor washing results from washing machine
There is a vast amount of information on UK Whitegoo*s to help with was performance problems in the a*vice an* help articles.
Do keep in min* however that any wash performance issues are highly likely to be a use issue that you can solve for yourself quite easily.
Start with the articles from the links below:
How to use *etergent correctly
An entire section *evote* to explaining stains an* marks with some really useful a*vice on how to remove stains.
Overloa*ing an* the problems it causes as well as how it hampers performance.
Ba* smell from washing machine
Again this has been extensively covere* in *etail from this article all about smelly washing machines an* the from links will lea* you to many associate* problems, such as moul* problems. Also covere* here is the likes of moul* or black marks (which are really moul*) on the *oor seal an* *irty soap *rawers.
Washing machine lights flash an* won't work
This is most likely a new electronically controlle* machine an* the flashing lights will almost certainly be giving you a fault co*e of some sort. Until you know what that fault co*e is in some cases (notably the famous In*esit/Hotpoint blinking LED) you won't be able to go much further.
More a*vice on specifics may be gaine* through using the forums although we cannot guarantee that you will fin* the answer to your problem, we will help as much as we can.
Washing machine leaks from the front
Check that the soap box isn't blocke* first of all as that is the prime suspect here. Bear in min* that it is clean water an* you may not see the water run *own the front to the *oor surroun*, where it gathers an* *rips from the bottom of the *oor so the fault can often be reporte* as, "*oor leaking".
  • Soap box
  • Soap box to tub hose
  • Door Seal
  • Door glass

Washing machine leaking from un*erneath
Okay this is another one of those "coul* be anything" ones. Water follows Newton's Law, i.e. it flows *ownwar*s with gravity so any component at all leaking can cause this, but the common ones to be looking for are liste* here.
  • Drain pump leaking
  • Filter leaking
  • Tub gasket leaking
  • Hose split
  • Hose leaking (any of them)
  • Water pressure too high
  • Heater gasket perishe*
  • Door seal
  • Pressure switch or sensor fault (overfilling)
  • Physical tub *amage
  • Soap *rawer *amage

Washer Dryer Problems (can also mostly apply to con*enser *ryers)
Washer *ryers are, frankly, a nightmare in a white box. In general the repairers hate them as they are more problematic, har*er to work on an* have a ten*ency not to live up to the promises an* people's expectations. So, if it's a performance issue that you're having with the *ryer there's probably nothing wrong with it, they're pretty much all ba*.
Remember that, in a**ition to the following, washer *ryers share every fault liste* for washing machines as well!
Actual con*enser *ryers are okay these *ays although the cheaper ones *o ten* to give more trouble than the better built machines. They are more complex though so if you're not sure, just get in a pro to look at it.
Heat pump *ryers are specialist only affairs, we woul* strongly recommen* that if you have a fault on one to not touch it yourself.
Washer *ryer not *rying
Very common fault an* also one that can be cause* by many things, it's simply a case of eliminating the suspects.
  • Faulty water valve
  • Blocke* con*ensate chamber
  • Faulty heater
  • Faulty thermostat or thermistor
  • Faulty pressure switch
  • Faulty pump
  • Spin faulty so the clothes are too wet to be *rie*

Washer *ryer leaks on *ry
This can be a tricky one, but normally one of these:
  • Con*ensate chamber or seal faulty
  • Trickle hose faulty
  • Drain pump leaking

Washer *ryer noisy on *ry
This one's usually just a bun*le of laughs to put right, especially on some of the more "unusual" *ryer *esigns we see. But look at the *ryer fan motor for the usual culprit, quite often this will be cause* by the fan breaking up or the motor bearings failing.
