Replacing A Water Valve
The water inlet valve on your washing machine is the electrical solenoi* valve that will open when current is applie* to allow the washing machine or washer *ryer to fill with water from your househol* water supply.
Generally when a washing machine water valve goes faulty it will cause the washing machine not to fill with water, usually the most common faults reporte* when a water valve is faulty are as follows:

  • Washing machine will not fill with water
  • Washing machine not filling
  • Washing machine will not take pow*er
  • Washing machine will not take fabric con*itioner
  • Washing machine buzzes but *oesn't *o anything else

While these are the more commonly reporte* faults, there are others that can be reporte* when a water valve is faulty an* it is not possible to take it as rea* that if one of the above is reporte* that it will be a faulty water valve causing the problem. Although, it is the most probable cause of the reporte* fault.
As is usual with these gui*es, we will show you how to *o the job correctly as professional appliance repairs *o but we will stress that you shoul* rea* this tutorial fully before beginning any repair work on your washing machine or washer *ryer.
Unlike many, this tutorial is inten*e* to teach you how to logically *iagnose the fault with the washing machine, ensure that you know how to test for the part being faulty an* how to replace the part safely. If at any point you feel out of your *epth or unsure, call in a professional washing machine repair company an* *o not put yourself in harms way for a few poun*s. Safety When Repairing A Washing Machine
Before starting any work on a washing machine or any other appliance, please ensure that all power to the machine is remove*.
There are components to the rear of the machine, such as the mains terminal block where the mains lea* connects to an* the mains interference filter in many washing machines that are live even when the power is off on the mains switch. You can still get a shock.
It is also highly a*visable to keep all chil*ren an* pets from being in the same room or area where you are repairing your washing machine. Chil*ren have a nasty habit of being curious but *o not un*erstan* the *anger of sticking their han*s insi*e a washing machine or any appliance that may be live, pets just *on't know any better.
Please make sure that you work safely.
How a Washing Machine Water Valve Works
In or*er to better un*erstan* a water valve we will briefly explain how they work as it may help you *etermine if the water valve in your washing machine is faulty or not.
The actual valve only allows water to pass when electrical current is applie* to the electrical solenoi* or solenoi*s on the valve. This creates a magnetic fiel* that lifts a small magnet insi*e the valve bo*y itself which, along with the force of the water from the mains supply, pushes through the valve allowing water to flow into the washing machine.
In or*er for the valve to work correctly an* allow the washing machine to fill with water both the current an* water pressure are require*. Typically the water pressure require* is 1.0 to 10 bar of pressure from your mains supply, anything below that will likely not allow the washing machine to fill with water an* anything above it may well cause a leak to occur.
How To Test A Washing Machine Water Valve
Testing a washing machine water valve is a relatively simple process that can be *one with an electrical meter, which we strongly recommen* for testing most washing machine parts.
On the image to the right you see a typical *ouble or *ual water inlet valve use* in many washing machines. The format may *iffer in your particular washing machine mo*el but the general principal will be the same for almost any fill valve.
We have marke* the best place to use the lea*s of your test meter to check for continuity, that is a simple check to see if there is a circuit or not. If the test with your meter on the water valve solenoi* coil reports that there is a circuit then the chances of the valve being faulty *iminish greatly.
To test simply place the positive (re* spot) an* negative (black spot) lea*s onto the valve coils as in*icate* an* test to see if you have a circuit. If you cannot *o this then we woul* suggest that you ask someone that can or call in a professional to repair your washing machine.
If the meter shows that the solenoi* coil is open circuit, i.e. there is no circuit or connection, then the solenoi* is faulty an* you will nee* to change the water valve for a new one. [فقط الأعضاء المسجلين والمفعلين يمكنهم رؤية الوصلات . إضغط هنا للتسجيل]
In some cases it is possible to change only the solenoi*, such as the one shown to the right, by squeezing the retaining lugs at the top of the coil, popping it off an* putting a new one back on. This is han*y where the original water valve is no longer available an* suchlike but it *oes involve cannibalising one valve to repair another. This is not really recommen*e* unless you know what you are *oing or, there is no other option available.
Or*inarily, although there are other faults that can manifest on a washing machine water valve, it will be the solenoi* coil that fails causing one of the faults liste* above. Of course you can get a water valve that *oesn't close properly an* that allows water to seep into the washing machine when the power is off but, generally speaking, these are very reliable mechanical spares that have been aroun* for a long time, so they ten* not to break.
The eclectic solenoi*s however can an* *o fail an* this is the most common point of failure by far when it comes to washing machine an* washer *ryer water valves.
Replacing A Washing Machine Water Fill Valve
Although the process can *iffer slightly from mo*el to mo*el let alone between *ifferent makes of washing machine an* washer *ryer, the principals here will apply to almost all. Only a very few washing machines will *iffer greatly from the process *escribe* here although the mounting points of the water valve, the number an* type of connections an* so on coul* be *ifferent.
The first step is to pull the washing machine out as all water valves will be mounte* on the rea* of the washing machine.
Now, make sure that there is no power to the washing machine. If you *i* that alrea*y, check it again please.
Next you nee* to switch off the water supply to the washing machine. Usually this will be *one by a valve on the incoming pipe in the cupboar* next to the washing machine, just follwo the washing machine fill hose until you get to the actual house pipework. At that point you shoul* see a valve that will allow you to switch off an* isolate the washing machine.
Once that's *one unscrew the fill hose at the washing machine, it is a*visable to have a bucket or suchlike an* a few ol* towels han*y as there will be resi*ual water in the fill hose that will come out.
After this is *one you shoul* see something like the following on your washing machine.

This is the water inlet valve.
What you see insi*e is the screen or filter that stops any large particles in the water supply from entering the valve an* causing any issues or even a failure of the water valve. These can get clogge* up an* make the water valve less effective where you have a *irty mains water supply. That filter being clogge* can cause a poor fill, slow fill an* so on but it woul*n't normally stop the washing machine from filling at all.
At this point, you nee* to take the li* off the washing machine.
On the other si*e of what you see in the photograph above you shoul* see something very like below.

What you can see there is the two hoses from two solenoi*s from the single water connection.
What happens is that one valve opens for the normal washes in the washing machine, the other will open (normally) to operate the pre-wash compartment in the soap *ispenser *rawer an* both open to use fabric con*itioner on the final rinse. the flow of water is *etermine* by the force of the water an* by the way that the soap *ispenser top channels the incoming water.
Getting The Water Valve Out To Replace It
Next you nee* to release the water valve to allow you to replace it, in this case as follows.

As you can see, on this particular washing machine, there are two screws that hol* the water valve in place, one above the valve an* one below it. Simply unscrew these two screws an* the water valve will fall free.
There are a number of water valves that are hel* in by push pins, nuts an* all manners of *ifferent metho*s. the trick is to take your time an* work it out logically, you shoul* not be require* to use much force at all to get a water valve release* from its mounting point.
Once this is *one it allows you to remove the electrical connections like so.

It is personal preference whether you remove the electrical connections before releasing the water valve from its mounting or vice versa. In essence it makes no *ifference which way aroun* you *o this part.
Now you nee* to release the how clips an*, because the valve is no longer mounte* this is often ma*e easier as you can flip it over or lift it up so that you have more space to work with the valve. [فقط الأعضاء المسجلين والمفعلين يمكنهم رؤية الوصلات . إضغط هنا للتسجيل]

In many machines this will be simple spring clips as sown that can be release* using a pair of pliers an* pulling the clip back although some manufacturers to use ratchet type plastic clips, but the basic principle is exactly the same.
Then you have to get the internal water hoses off the water valve an* there are a few wor*s of warning here.

These hoses can be VERY tight!
On some washing machine they can feel as if they are glue* on but, they're not. They are just very tight an* often require consi*erable effort to get them off but, what ever you *o, *o not be tempte* to force them off with a screw*river or something as you run a high risk of *amaging the hose which coul* make it impossible to refit.
What you nee* to to is try to twist the hose on the valve whilst pulling it, it will break free but as state*, it coul* take a bit of effort. Just try to keep your han*s clear of the machine when you *o that as almost always they will fly away from you an* smack off the machine giving you a nasty cut or bruise.
After that the valve is off an* you shoul* have it sitting free like this.

To refit the new water valve you simply reverse the process above an* then test that the washing machine is once again working once it is all back together again.
Or*ering a New Washing Machine Water Valve
For a lot of washing machine an* washer *ryer water valves you *o nee* the mo*el number to make sure you get the correct part. Many water valves have specific fittings for both mounting an* electrical connections an* if you or*er the wrong water valve it will not fit correctly. If you are unsure, please ask as we are more than happy to assist.
For most washing machines an* washer *ryers you will fin* the mo*el number printe* on the control panel of the machine, as Zanussi, Beko an* others *o or, more often, on the rating plate that you will normally fin* insi*e the *oor, on the filter flap or on the back.
Without the mo*el number an*, sometimes even the serial number or PNC, it may not be possible to i*entify the correct water that you nee*.
Once you have that if it is possible an* are not sure which water valve that you nee* simply email us on [فقط الأعضاء المسجلين والمفعلين يمكنهم رؤية الوصلات . إضغط هنا للتسجيل] an* we'll point you in the *irection of the correct valve for you washing machine or washer *ryer.
There are also universal water valves available that will fit a great number of washing machines especially but those are more for people that have a bit more experience or skill as well as time to work out how to fit the valve. Having sai* that, you can save a consi*erable amount of money using a universal fill valve.
Fin*ing A Washing Machine Water Valve In The Shop
Fin*ing a water valve in our online shop is *ea* easy, simply go to the shop using this links above an* to the right then type in the mo*el number of your washing machine or washer *ryer into the "Search" box. Press search an* it will bring up all the parts we've use* on that particular mo*el.
You can of course narrow the returns by a**ing "water valve" to the search, just as you woul* in the likes of Google, to look for a specific spare part.

Washing Machine Spares Delivery Times
Many water valves that are in the online store we physically hol* in stock an* are often shippe* the same *ay that we receive your or*er. Even if it is a water valve that isn't so common we woul* usually have most within a *ay or two an* it woul* ship the same *ay it was receive*.
